ORLEANS PARK & RIDE

The Orleans Park and Ride project is part of the City of Ottawas’ LRT Stage 2 contract. The project includes over 40km of light rail system as well as the development of infrastructure to improve their public system. The investment to complete this project was over $1.2 Billion.

Construction of the LRT commenced early 2020. As utilities are not always located where they are shown on the drawings provided to the contractor, an existing watermain AWWA C303 400mm diameter, 45 degree elbow as well as a straight pipe were both damaged while working on the Orleans Park and Ride portion of the contract.

The contract was awarded to Marathon Underground who is one of Canada’s leading specialty underground contractors, Marathon has over 40 years of experience in the construction industry completing drilling projects across Canada.

On December 5th, 2020 Forterra Concrete Pressure Pipe received a call regarding the need of repair on-site. Forterra has technical specialist who are able to assist in the field. This team is available to contractors to help with layouts, installation issues and repairs.

Our technical specialists went to the job site to inspect the damage. The Forterra technical specialists identified the type of pipe, joints and took all field measurements required to manufacture the replacement pieces.

While out in the field, our engineering department prepared shop drawings for the repair. By Tuesday December 8th, 2020 the product was manufactured to suite the site requirements. The next day a contractor had picked up the product and was able to be picked up that day.
