Reston, Va. — The American Concrete Pressure Pipe Association (ACPPA) recently hosted Maximizing the Performance of Concrete Pressure Pipeline Assets on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Omni Hotel, CNN Center in Atlanta, GA. The ½-day workshop attracted nearly 50 attendees, including owners, designers, contractors, suppliers, students and educators.

"We are extremely pleased by the response to our first workshop," noted ACPPA member Jim Tully, P.E., of Munro Concrete Products in Utopia, Ontario. "ACPPA is looking to increase interaction with individuals who specify, design, install and utilize our products. The workshop provided an excellent opportunity to network with our industry peers."

In promoting a theme of pipeline asset management, the workshop addressed the full range of life-cycle considerations, including available products, condition assessment technologies, evaluation procedures, cathodic protection techniques and rehabilitation/repair methods. Attendees gained a greater understanding of the versatility and durability of concrete pressure pipe — while learning how the pipe can be designed and manufactured to satisfy a variety of structural and environmental conditions, thereby lowering operations and maintenance costs.

Response to the workshop was overwhelmingly positive as one participant noted, "The program fit together extremely well and presented a balanced approach. I particularly enjoyed the variety of presentations - they were entertaining and educational."
