ACPPA Expands StaffJuly 2009 Fairfax, Va. The American Concrete Pressure Pipe Association (ACPPA) has named Ryan J. Franks to the position of Engineering Program Manager. In this new position, Ryan will oversee the association's audit certification program, education & training programs and website content. He will also work closely with the Marketing Committee and Technical Committee in implementing the association's new strategic plan. "We're excited to have Ryan on board," noted ACPPA president and CEO Rick Lawhun. "His skills and enthusiasm will be valuable assets as we seek to develop new programs and increase our visibility within the industry." Prior to joining ACPPA, Ryan served as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office examining patent applications in the field of static structures. During and immediately after college, he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in their Construction Engineering Research Laboratory as a research assistant overseeing and conducting experimentation related to the thermal conductivity of nanofluids. Ryan is an alumnus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics.
